I love the smell of homemade bread wafting through the kitchen, so I make most of our bread from scratch. When I’m not in a rush, I mix and knead it all by hand, however, most of the time, I love the convenience of using my bread machine. This homemade soft sandwich bread is delicious and simple to make.
This homemade soft sandwich bread recipe only requires five simple ingredients! If you have never made your own bread before, this is the perfect recipe to start with. Also, using a bread machine can make the whole process of homemade bread making a lot less intimidating. I simply measure out my ingredients, layer them in my bread machine according to the manufacture’s instructions and press start. The bread machine completes all of the mixing, kneading, rising and baking for me! Often I will put all of my ingredients in my bread machine and go run errands; when I come home in the evening the bread is complete and ready for supper.
My go to for all of my baking flours in King Arthur. I used the King Arthur All-Purpose flour in this recipe; it can be found at most grocery stores or ordered online directly from them.

Soft Sandwich Bread (bread machine)
Equipment
- Bread Machine Capable of a 2 lb loaf
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 3/4 tsp active dry yeast
Instructions
- Layer your ingredients in your bread machine according to the manufacture's instructions. This is very important and will affect the outcome of your recipe. My bread machine manual instructs to put all of the wet ingredients into the bread pan first, following by the flour, salt, and sugar. It then instructs to make a small well in the flour for the yeast. It is important for the yeast not to touch the salt, sugar or liquid.
- Select the basic white bread course with a medium crust if applicable and press "start."
- When the machine is done, all the bread to sit for 5 minutes. Carefully, remove the bread pan from the machine using oven mitts as it will be hot. Invert the bread pan and gently shake the pan to remove the loaf. Allow the loaf to cool on a wire rack. Wrapped bread can be stored on the counter for up to 4 days.
