My fall garden has been growing quite a bit with all of the recent rains we’ve been having. Pests ate my broccoli and sugar snap peas before I was able to harvest any of those. The pests for the most part though have left the remainder of the garden alone. Here’s what’s been growing and what I have harvested so far. Let’s see how many pounds of vegetables I can harvest from my garden this year!
The red Russian kale has been very prolific! It’s also gorgeous to look at with the purple stems.
Yesterday evening, I pulled this GIANT Black Spanish Radish. Isn’t she a beauty? The outside is coal black with white flesh on the inside. Pretty cool!
The turnips are about done for the season; I pulled a bunch of these to turn into turnip fries. Also, I harvested 3 small bunches of butter crunch lettuce. I planted two more small rows of lettuce to hopefully get another harvest before the hot weather arrives.
More radishes; these red ones are perfect for salads! I heard you can roast them in the oven like little potatoes…that’s on the menu soon!
Now for the 2019 garden tally so far:
Radishes 1 pound 4 ounces
Lettuce 2 ounces
Turnips 3 pounds 4 ounces
How many pounds of food do you think I should shoot for this year? I’m thinking 150 pounds…chime in and let me know if you keep a garden tally yourself.
